10 Actors That Gambled Their Careers By NOT Taking Huge Movie Roles
4. Molly Ringwald - Vivian In Pretty Woman
The 80's belonged to Molly Ringwald, due to her being America's sweetheart and being John Hugh's muse. Her iconic firey looks and girl-next-door attitude made sure to solidify herself into Hollywood history. But... since the days of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, Ringwald has pretty much disappeared into obscurity.
Ringwald has stated many times that she doesn't consider turning down the female lead in Pretty Woman a bad move, but one look at her filmography in comparison to Julie Roberts' will dispute this.
Roberts was at the very beginning of her career when she won the role of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, but her magnetic performance made sure to put her on the proverbial acting map. In contrast, Ringwald's filmography post-1990 looks like a ghost town of obscure indie films and weird cameos.
The actress insists that the script she received for the movie, at the time titled "$3000", was nowhere near the masterpiece that we now know and love. She states that it was due to Roberts' performance that the movie became a success. But we can only take Ringwald's word for this.
