10 Actors Who Turned Down Roles In Star Wars

A long time ago, in a casting room far, far away...

3al Pacino Star Wars To go someway in quoting Julie Andrews, "The Internet is alive with the sound of Star Wars VII speculation". Already big dogs are reported to return; Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Mark Hamill are rumoured to be reprising their roles from the original trilogy whilst Girls' Adam Driver is also reportedly set to play the villain. On the other side of the coin however, big names in Hollywood are also cropping up already in Star Wars VII's trivia page as having been 'considered for the role' (whatever that means) without making the grade - Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving seem to have lost out to Driver whilst Saoirse Ronan was reported to have read for a role - did she get it? Didn't she? Who knows? It's a long way to go until December 18th, 2015 and there will no doubt be a copious amount of casting rumours, script leaks and on-set controversy along the way. We all can't wait. However in the meantime, let's take a moment to reflect on the equally barmy, equally speculative pre-production of both the original and prequel trilogies of George Lucas' fabled space opera. In among the Liam Neesons, Natalie Portmans, Harrison Fords and Samuel L Jacksons of the world, there has been the odd actor or two who've turned away from the life of living on a planet with two moons or a city in the clouds a long, long time ago in galaxy that's somehow in the future. Do they live to regret it? Perhaps. Would the films have been made better? In some cases, unequivocally. Is there anything we can about it now? Absolutely not. Enjoy...
