10 Actors Who Almost Starred In 2017's Biggest Movies

Idris Elba may have landed a role as Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower, but he didn't manage to win the part of Gaston in this year's remake of Beauty and the Beast. The role went to Luke Evans, of course, who knocked it out of the park with his amazing vocals and smarmy acting, though Elba - who is a huge musical fan, apparently - did attempt to claim the iconic character for his own.

In an interview with People magazine, Elba revealed that he was asked to send an audition tape to Disney, who considered the actor for the part before deciding it was going to be a no. So, yes, an audition tape exists... it's out there in the world somewhere, although the actor has refused to let it into the public domain.

Would It Have Been Any Good?

Elba can sing, so on a vocal level this would have probably been fine. But Elba is coming up to fifty years old. Imagining him starring alongside Emma Watson would have been a bit creepy, to be honest.

Still, there is something about this potential casting choice that would have made for some interesting viewing.
