10 Actors Who Almost Starred In 2017's Biggest Movies
8. Tilda Swinton - It
Alright, so the moment that you read the words "Tilda Swinton" and "It" in the same sentence, your brain did a happy little dance, didn't it?
It was one of the biggest hits of the year, which came as a surprise to most people given that the source material is more than thirty years old (thank you, Stranger Things), and emerged a critical darling, too. Part of what it so great, of course, was Bill Skarsgård's performance as evil shapeshifter Pennywise the Clown. He managed to be both creepy and hilarious whilst making the character firmly his own.
Still, when you hear that the producers originally wanted Tilda Swinton in the film, you can't help but wonder about the giddy possibilities of such inspired casting. When asked - as a joke - whether Swinton was ever considered for the part of It's main villain, producer Barbara Muschietti said, "She wasn’t available. But of course, we all thought about [her]."
Would It Have Been Any Good?
Look, we all know that it would have been amazing, the sort of tour-de-force performance that could have brought an Oscar nomination. This is the sort of role that Swinton - who is one of cinema's most gifted chameleons - would have simply nailed. Just imagine that face peering out from the gutter... chilling.
