10 Actors Who Almost Starred In 2017's Biggest Movies
4. Shia LaBeouf - Call Me By Your Name
Call Me By Your Name has emerged as one of 2017's most critically acclaimed motion pictures, and the lead performances by Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet - as an American grad student and an Italian teenager caught in a love affair, respectively - have a lot to do with that.
In the film, it's Hammer who is poised as the desirable American, but at one stage the role belonged to Shia LaBeouf, just about the most polarising actor working the scene today, both beloved and loathed for his feverish acting style.
Given that the film has been in development since 2007, it's not really surprising that a few actors have been attached to role, though it's LaBeouf who came closet to the part without ever performing it. Before the film was helmed by Luca Guadagnino, it was set to be directed by James Ivory, who hired LaBeouf. When the film's director changed, however, LaBeouf was replaced with Hammer.
Would It Have Been Any Good?
It would have changed the movie entirely, for sure, because LaBeouf and Hammer are two completely different actors. Whilst LeBeouf has an unashamedly mangy quality to him, Hammer is clean cut, precise. Still, one could argue the LeBeouf version of this picture would have been very interesting.
