Baby Driver was a surprise hit at the box office this year, because who would have guessed a film starring a relative unknown in the lead role, made on a budget of just $34 million, could rake in a whopping $229 million at the box office? No wonder Edgar Wright is so keen to get a sequel off the ground.

Ansel Elgort played the titular "Baby" in the movie, then, but another, better- established actor named John Boyega - who you might know from a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens - came close to nabbing the lead role. Boyega met Wright during their work together on Attack the Block, which Wright produced, and was reportedly in fierce consideration for the wheel-spinning lead.

In the end, Wright opted for Elgort, who got to star opposite the lovely Lily James and alongside big name stars such as Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, and Kevin Spacey.

Would It Have Been Any Good?

Boyega is an undeniably great actor, but he doesn't have the same natural balance of insecurity and cockiness that Elgort does. Had Wright made the film with Boyega instead, though, there's no doubting he would have put in a good performance, because John Boyega doesn't do bad performances, does he?
