10 Actors Who Almost Starred In 2017's Biggest Movies

5. Matthew McConaughey - Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2

Matthew McConaughey in a Guardians of the Galaxy film? Alright, alright, alright. What would have once have been deemed lame and ridiculous now feels like a legitimately plausible idea, courtesy of a little thing called the McConaissance. Unfortunately, it never happened, despite the fact that the Oscar-winning actor was offered a major part in James Gunn's Marvel blockbuster sequel.

The part? That of Ego, Star Lord's father and the film's main villain, which - yes - would have resulted in McConaughey playing Chris Platt's father, had he agreed. Turned out the actor preferred the script for The Dark Tower, for some reason, and signed up for that film instead. What a way to put an end to the McConaissance!

Kurt Russell eventually landed the role of Ego, of course, and the smarmy nature of the character suited him down to the ground.

Would It Have Been Any Good?

McConaughey could have certainly made the performance memorable, but he's only ten years older than Pratt, his on-screen son, which might have made the age gap a little bit unbelievable.

While it's easy to believe Kurt Russell as Star Lord's father, it's a lot harder to imagine McConaughey. Had he been ten years older, though, their pairing as father and son would have been perfect.
