Back when Arnold Schwarzenegger was campaigning to become the governor of California, he didn't have the smoothest of rides to get there. In the final weeks before the election, several women came forward and accused the Austrian Oak of "unwanted fondling" on the sets of his movies, ranging from 1975 to 2000.

Schwarzenegger's camp swiftly denied these claims, arguing that - considering their proximity to the election - they were a shrewdly-timed political attack. However, the actor did still apologise, stating that he had been on "rowdy" film sets, and describing his past behaviour as "playful":

"It is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right which I thought then was playful but now I recognise that I offended people. Those people that I have offended, I want to say to them I am deeply sorry about that and I apologise because that's not what I'm trying to do."

Even with all this controversy surrounding him, Arnie easily won the election with 48.6% of the vote, and he had a long career in politics.
