10 Actors Who Are About To Make A Huge Comeback
2. Daniel Day-Lewis - Phantom Thread
Daniel Day-Lewis, the man with the most Best Actor Oscars to his name, hasn't made a film in five years. His last acting job came in the form of Lincoln, where he played the titular President (and nabbed his third Academy Award in the process) in Steven Spielberg's masterful biopic. Then, as Day-Lewis does, he disappeared.
Now, half a decade later, Day-Lewis is positioned to return in a film curiously titled Phantom Thread, which reunites him with director Paul Thomas Anderson, whom the actor worked with on what was arguably the best film of 2007, There Will Be Blood. As prospector/madman Daniel Plainview, Day-Lewis was phenomenal.
Phantom Thread, set for release in 2015, isn't a comeback in the same way as the other entries in this list are. Day-Lewis purposely takes these lengthy periods out from Hollywood in order to preserve his integrity (and to presumably generate a bit of mystery in the process). Still, five years away... this is definitely a comeback.
The film, set in the fashion industry in 1950s in London, will see Day-Lewis as real life human Charles James, a designer commissioned to work for the Royal Family. It sounds absolutely nuts in every way imaginable, and Daniel Day-Lewis is probably going to win another bloody Oscar for it, isn't he?
