There has been, for a good number of years now, calls for Willem Dafoe to play The Joker. Undoubtedly Hollywood's most expressive actor with, undoubtedly, Hollywood's most expressive face, the sheer overwhelming volumes of fan art dedicated to this fantasy casting should tell you precisely how popular it would be.

Plus, with recent collaboration The Lighthouse earning the pair rave reviews, these calls now have the backing of people who just want to see Robert Pattinson and Dafoe reunite for another outing. Their chemistry in the movie, while not exactly resembling that of a superhero and his ultimate adversary (although at times not not resembling that), was such that they'd have a lot of fun with any parts they were given together.

Adding further weight to all of this is the fact that Dafoe himself already has an interest in the part stretching way back to Tim Burton's 1989 Batman. He was apparently told by its screenwriter Sam Hamm he had exactly the look they were after, and his name had come up a number of times during the initial casting phases. It never got any further than that though, Jack Nicholson got the part, and Dafoe was left to wonder what could have been.

Still, it's never too late...
