To recognise his current standing in the Avengers field, weve chosen two potential replacements for Tony Stark, both of which may surprise you. First up, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Its been pretty impressive stuff watching Gordon-Levitt morph from the cherubic youngster seen in Roseanne and 3rd Rock from the Sun to a bona fide Hollywood A-lister. His performances in Brick and Looper played a big part in helping friend and filmmaker Rian Johnson graduate from promising talent to Star Wars director-in-waiting, and he has that fortunate habit of elevating every film he appears in. Does he have what it takes to fill the superhero-sized ego of Tony Stark as we know him? Well, thats where Gordon-Levitt is a great fit. He has plenty of swagger, a palpable intelligence two essential qualities and enough presence to make the role his own. At 33, Gordon-Levitts also the perfect age to justify a lengthy contract, he has experience of big budget filmmaking through his involvement in the likes of Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, and hes just the right side of affordable. Whether or not he is equipped for an action role like this remains to be seen, but then Downey Jr. had no track record in that department either. His continued involvement in adapting Neil Gaimans celebrated Sandman comic book series could get in the way, but we could do a lot worse than Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the next Iron Man.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
