10 Actors Who Didn't Want To Be Credited For Movie Roles

4. Tom Cruise In Tropic Thunder

Tom Cruise is many things to many people but comedy is not one talent that Maverick himself has been cited for. At least until 2008 and the release of Tropic Thunder. Directed by and starring Ben Stiller, it's a film about a film, specifically a movie about a group of moronic actors attempting to make a Vietnam war picture and finding themselves forced to become the real soldiers they are barely even pretending to be.

While the comedy award has to go to Robert Downey Jr and his Russell Crowe/Daniel Day-Lewis hybrid, special mention has to go to Tom Cruise and his uncredited performance as Les Grossman, a producer, studio executive type who was based loosely on Sumner Redstone, a Paramount boss and media mogul in control of Cruise's long term studio partner Paramount, before their very public breakup.

Playing Grossman with the same level of intensity that Cruise pumps into all his performances and a script that would make Frankie Boyle blush was easily enough to get Cruise on this list. One scene in particular, in which he tells a bad guy to "Take a big step back and literally F*CK YOUR OWN FACE," is probably enough to get him on another kind of list...

Despite Stiller doing his best to keep the role a surprise, the dratted internet had other plans and soon before the film's release, images of a balding, hairy, fat Tom Cruise with massive prosthetic hands did the rounds online. The final result is all Cruise though and Stiller made sure that he got all the credit for creating the character after the film's release.
