10 Actors Who Distanced Themselves From What Made Them Great
5. Sean Connery - James Bond
Now to an actor who never truly embraced the exposure that came with being the face of one of cinema's most iconic characters - James Bond.
The constant intrusions that came from contractual press interviews and personality profiles, definitely influenced Sir Thomas Sean Connery's outspoken view on there not being 'much of James Bond in (him)' and it became abundantly clear that he didn't want to be associated with that part alone.
Even early into his stretch as Bond, Connery made it known that he 'must be careful not to get too typed', clearly referencing wanting to avoid being pigeon-holed as a smooth talking eyebrow raiser and as the years rolled by his desire to escape the role only grew.
He eventually got his wish - after seven outings as the secret agent - and tried desperately to pursue other parts that could drown out the constant Bond noise he had been subjected to in the aftermath of his license to kill being revoked.
Roles in The Untouchables (1987) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) both went some way in ensuring he had a few more iconic characters to fall back on, yet fans still refused to let him forget just how synonymous he was with the famous fictional womaniser.
