10 Actors Who Distanced Themselves From What Made Them Great
4. Zac Efron - High School Musical
Upon exploding onto the scene as teen heart-throb Troy Bolton, you would never have expected to see that very same squeaky clean Disney poster boy don the guise of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy further down the line.
Yet, after spending years trying to get his head in the game, Zac Efron had finally had enough of all things High School Musical and hasn't exactly kept his views on his contribution to the series to himself since.
Stating that he 'still wants to kick that guy's ass sometimes' - referring to his teenage self strutting around like he owned the place in the sugary sweet musicals - it's plain to see that Efron feels as though that early injection of fame sent out the wrong message as to what he wanted to be perceived as in the industry.
Since hanging up his basketball sneakers, Efron has attempted to shed that PG image with roles in Bad Neighbours (2014) and the aforementioned Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019).
It now looks as though Efron has finally turned a corner and is starting to establish himself as a different entity entirely, yet it will be interesting to see what his next move will be in trying to break free from the ghosts of his past.
