4. Katie Holmes - Batman Begins
My first thought whenever I remember that Katie Holmes plays Rachel Dawes in
Batman Begins is always: "How many phone calls did Tom Cruise have to put in to make that happen?" I don't hate Katie Holmes or anything - I'm not even that familiar with her body of work, to be honest - but there's no denying the fact that she sticks amongst the otherwise great actor choices in this movie as an instance of relatively bizarre casting. Of all the actresses available, Nolan pairs Christian Bale with Katie "
Dawson's Creek" Holmes? The biggest problem with Holmes' role in the first place is that it isn't a very interesting one to begin with, I suppose. All she gets to do as love interest Rachel is stand about looking at Bruce whilst attempting to convey to the audience that she's pretty annoyed at how he's supposedly changed. Woo. But ultimately she just doesn't feel natural to this universe - she's an actress of subpar rom-coms, you know? Put her against Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman and you're gonna have a bad time.
