10 Actors Who Got Kicked Out Of Their Own Movie Franchises
1. Louis C.K. - The Secret Life Of Pets
Voiceover gigs in animated movie franchises are some of the most lucrative and sought-after in all of Hollywood, because they tend to pay enormously well for what amounts to spending a mere weekend running lines in an air-conditioned recording booth.
After all, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz were famously paid $10 million each for spending roughly 18 hours recording their lines for Shrek 2.
Illumination's The Secret Life of Pets was meanwhile led by popular comedian Louis C.K., who voiced adorable canine protagonist Max, and after the film grossed $875.5 million worldwide, a sequel was fast-tracked into production.
But when C.K. was accused of and admitted to extensive sexual harassment in 2017, he was promptly replaced by Patton Oswalt. Given that Louis C.K.'s vocal performance in the original movie wasn't that distinctive, it's fair to say that most younger viewers probably never even noticed the change.
The sequel ended up grossing less than half of its predecessor, though that was clearly a result of last summer's crowded box office field rather than the recast.
