10 Actors Who Got SERIOUSLY Ripped To Play Superheroes

9. Chris Pratt (Guardians Of The Galaxy)

When Chris Pratt was cast as Star-Lord, there were more than a few raised eyebrows, for as much as audiences loved his Andy Dwyer role on Parks and Recreation, the lovably doughy guy was in no shape to be a superhero.

Incredibly, though, Pratt shed almost 70 pounds during prep for Guardians of the Galaxy, ditching beer and red meat entirely while working out three or four hours per day for a period of six months.

Though Pratt had previously lost much of his bulk to play a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty, he quickly had to regain that weight to play Vince Vaughn's schlubby pal in the comedy Delivery Man.

Pratt was cast as Star-Lord shortly after that movie wrapped, requiring him to almost immediately start dropping the fat once again. As stressful as yo-yo diets can be on the human body, it was clearly worth the immense effort: Pratt looked incredible during his iconic shirtless scene and became an unexpected sex symbol in the process.
