10 Actors Who Suffered Career Meltdowns After Winning Oscars
6. Mira Sorvino
A lot of people don't even know who Mira Sorvino is, which makes sense given that she hasn't really made herself known to contemporary audiences in recent years. She picked up an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as far back as 1995 for her turn as a prostitute called Linda Ash in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite; the movie isn't a masterpiece, but Sorvino feels like a real revelation in it. Others who do know Sorvino will know her for role in the quite good but not amazing comedy flick Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, wherein she plays the former. It's something of a cult movie nowadays, and - for what it's worth - Sorvino is pretty darn great in it, too. But there have been lots and lots meandering roles since than fateful Oscar and not much else; for some reason, Sorvino never wound up in another movie of the famous kind. Nothing wrong with that, of course - just a little disappointing, given that it almost feels like she never lived up to her full potential.
