Sam Raimi isn't the sort of director who condones his actors phoning it in once the cameras start rolling. In fact, sometimes it doesn't even matter if you're committing wholeheartedly to the character you're playing, if the director thinks he needs to imbue a legitimate surprise into a scenario to get the response he's looking for, he will not hesitate.

Just ask Alison Lohman.

Throughout the filming of Raimi's hilariously horrifying feature Drag Me to Hell, the leading lady was routinely put through the wringer by her director and often hadn't the slightest idea what she was in store for in the wake of him shouting "action!".

Most notably, during a scene which saw Lohman being smothered by an animatronic corpse, the actor wasn't notified that the artificial dead body on top of her had been rigged to fire fake vomit at her face as her mouth was wide open. As you've likely realised by now, this meant that the eventual look of unmistakable horror on Lohman's face during the aforementioned scene that made its way into the finsihed article was about as real as it gets.
