10 Actors Who Hate ONE Movie In Their Franchise
3. Ralph Macchio - The Karate Kid Part III
The Karate Kid franchise has been well and truly rejuvenated by the success of the TV revival series Cobra Kai, as it's fair to say that the iconic martial arts movies otherwise quickly ran out of steam.
While you might expect Ralph Macchio, who plays lead Daniel LaRusso, to take particular issue with either 1994's The Next Karate Kid - where Macchio was subbed out for Hilary Swank - or 2010's remake, he in fact has a real bone to pick with The Karate Kid Part III.
A major critical and commercial disappointment, Part III brought Macchio's original run as Daniel to an end, and in recent years he's spoken about his issues with the film:
"Part three is not my favorite movie. All they did was make the first one over again, without any of the good stuff."
On a recent podcast interview, Macchio expanded that he felt the film failed Daniel's character:
"I just felt for the LaRusso character he never went forward. It felt like we were redoing the first movie in a cartoon kind of a sense without the heart and soul."
He's not the only one - director John G. Avildsen called it "a poor imitation of the first one" and "a horrible movie," while screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen said, "[The studio] didn't want to mess with the franchise and I felt very strongly that doing the same story all over again was f**king boring."
