10 Actors Who Hated Working On James Bond Movies
5. Honor Blackman
Honor Blackman is still to this day the most iconic ‘Bond Girl’ of them all - she played villainess Pussy Galore in the acclaimed Goldfinger – but she absolutely hated the term ‘Bond Girl’ until the day she died. Although she was the most successful Bond Girl to date, as the James Bond franchise really launched her career alongside Sean Connery, she despised the reputation that being a ‘Bond Girl’ had given her. She found the term extremely derogatory, stating ‘stop calling us Bond Girls, we are women and actresses’ in an interview for the Daily Mirror.
In all fairness, Honor Blackman enjoyed her character in Goldfinger at the time, but she hates the reputation that the role has given both her and her character. In a 2004 interview, she said “I hate being referred to as a ‘Bond Girl’, simply because Pussy Galore was a great character, it wouldn’t have mattered what she was in. Pussy Galore was a terrific girl. She was not some floozy who spent her time flat on her back, she was fun and had brains.”
Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of sense to Honor Blackman’s words, as although Pussy Galore was quite a great character as far as Bond films are concerned, her tongue-in-cheek name and sexualized manner is all that’s really talked about when the name comes up in casual conversation.
