10 Actors Who Hated Working Together

4. Julia Roberts & Nick Nolte - I Love Trouble

Mad Max Fury Road

The 1994 rom-com I Love Trouble starred Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte as rival, mismatched reporters who after teaming up on a story - shocker - end up falling for one another.

It cratered at the box office amid a critical drubbing, with many singling out the noticeably meagre chemistry between Roberts and Nolte, ultimately a result of the fact they just didn't get along at all during production.

Roberts was apparently irritated by Nolte's machismo on set and let him know it, so he responded by only playing up to her irritation. Some sources even suggest the two often acted opposite stand-ins because tensions ran so high.

At the time of the film's release, Roberts herself said that Nolte can be "charming and nice, [but] he's also completely disgusting." Nolte fired back with, "She's not a nice person. Everyone knows that."

It's ultimately tough to decide who's most to blame here, if blame really needs to be assigned at all: clearly this was a case of mismatched chemistry that should've been figured out in the casting stages.
