In a time where details about upcoming movies can spread like wildfire thanks to social media, it's not out of the ordinary for high-profile movies to suffer leaks of some description, whether that's a tasty inside scoop, or a blurry, low-res set image.

At the same time, big blockbusters thrive on secrecy, creating mystery boxes around their plots, post-credits scenes and characters. This drums up a lot of pre-release hype and speculation, creating more excitement for audiences based on the raw thrill of not knowing what to expect.

Imagine knowing that Red Skull had a cameo in Avengers: Infinity War, or that Bruce Willis had a small part in Split, before you saw each film: it would negatively impact your viewing experience, in a major way. Secrecy is always best, and to that end, there are a number of upcoming movies that are attempting to keep things quiet, by putting the nature of certain actors' roles on full, complete lockdown.

For whatever reason, we just don't know who these actors will be playing in their films, which surely means that their characters are important, exciting, and definitely worth speculating about.

10. Keri Russell - Star Wars: Episode IX

What We Know

Keri Russell and director J.J. Abrams have worked together in the past - on Mission: Impossible 3, and TV show Felicity - and now, the actress will be playing an unknown character in Abrams' upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

Russell was added to the cast last summer, with Variety revealing that the role will feature "action-heavy fight scenes". The actress is no stranger to parts like this, with MI3 and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes featuring a lot of action, so Abrams probably cast her because he knew she could handle it.

Who She Might Be Playing

"Action-heavy" implies that Russell won't be playing someone on a starship who sits around pushing buttons: she'll more likely be a soldier, some sort of ground-level fighter, or maybe a mercenary. To that end, there are rumours of a huge action scene (via MovieWeb) involving Russell's character and Kylo Ren, which may suggest that Russell is on the side of the Resistance.

On the other hand, it's also been speculated that she'll be playing one of the Knights Of Ren, which would certainly fill that action quota. There have also been the obligatory "she's playing Rey's mum" rumours too, so take that as you will.
