10 Actors Who Just Aren't Trying Hard Enough

9. Kevin James

Career High: Hitch Career Low: Paul Blart: Mall Cop Another who hasn't exactly made many waves in Hollywood since making the step up from sit-com fame with The King of Queens, Kevin James started so well, hinting with Hitch that he could play the slightly awkward leading comic man with a heart and a genuine likability factor. But then he started to work a bit more with Adam Sandler, and it seems to have rubbed off. Like Sandler, who James first worked with on 50 First Dates in a brief cameo, James seems to have hit on a formula for "success," and he's sticking with it regardless of how it comes across with comedy fans. Rather than relying on timing or wit, James spends the majority of his films either falling over or doing things that a fairly plus-sized man would look ridiculous doing - like riding a Segue, which was the awful Paul Blart: Mall Cop's single joke. A lot of people might not believe it, but James is above the films he is currently making, and it's a shame we're unlikely to really see much of his comic potential as long as he's signing up to things like Here Comes The Boom and Grown-Ups 2 - or in other words projects that are the very definition of disposable comedy.
