10 Actors Who Just Disappeared From Movies

5. Elisabeth Shue - Back To The Future Part II

BABY DRIVER
Universal

In Back to the Future Part II, Marty's (Michael J. Fox) girlfriend Jennifer is played by Elisabeth Shue, replacing Claudia Wells who chose not to return for the sequel for personal reasons.

Jennifer was a peripheral character in the first movie, but she still re-appeared at the end to remind you that she still existed. In Part II? Not so much.

At the end of the first act, Marty and Doc (Christopher Lloyd) return to 1985 with an unconscious Jennifer in tow, who fainted after coming into contact with her 2015 self.

Marty and Doc drop her off on the front porch of her house and we don't see Jennifer again for the rest of the movie. Weirder still, we don't actually see Jennifer again until the very end of Part III, when she's reunited with Marty in 1985.

It's fair to assume that director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale simply didn't have a role for Jennifer in the wider story, and so had to contrive a reason for her to be incapacitated for the events of an entire movie and a half. Incredible.
