3. Naomi Scott - Smile 2
Were there any justice in the world, Naomi Scott would've been a serious part of the Best Actress Oscar conversation for her outstanding performance in Smile 2 - but alas, Parker Finn's electric horror sequel was likely a few steps too "silly" for the Academy, in its more open-minded current era.
All the same, Scott gives a basically flawless performance as embattled pop-star Skye Riley, both proving fully persuasive as a Taylor Swift-esque pop icon and immersing herself fully in the physically and mentally demanding role.
Given that most of Scott's screen time sees her protagonist being pushed to the psychological brink by a demonic entity, she doesn't get much downtime to relax, instead commanding the screen with her believably traumatised performance.
Scott has proven herself a talented performer prior to this - being the easy standout in Disney's live-action Aladdin remake, for one - but Smile 2 gave her the floor to deliver one of the most impressively fearless, committed performance from any film, horror or not, in recent years.
