10 Actors Who Keep Getting Miscast
2. Jared Leto
Jared Leto has to be the most perplexing leading man of our time, in that, why the hell is he even getting leading man roles? He won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for playing a transgendered person suffering from AIDS in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club. Leto, normally known for playing heart-throbby roles in his early years before moving onto douchey guys in films like American Psycho and Panic Room, does just fine in those types of supporting roles.
Right after his Oscar-win for Dallas Buyers Club, Leto was given one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood: that of the new Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. His take on the character was met with, we could say, maybe 25% approval and 75% outright hatred. Now he’s playing yet another comic book villain, Morbius the Living Vampire? By the looks of the trailer the role could have been played better by a loaf of white bread.
Since Dallas Buyers Club, the best use of Mr. Leto onscreen was undoubtedly in Blade Runner 2049. In that film he played a corporate CEO with a god-complex; in other words, he played a creep—which was what he always did so well before vying for lead roles.
Prognosis: Mr. Leto needs something to take his mind off his quest to playing heroic types. How about a 30 Seconds to Mars world tour? That oughta keep him busy.
