10 Actors Who Lost Roles Because They Got Greedy
6. Sean Connery - James Bond
Much like Daniel Craig, it seems like the older Bonds had no trouble letting the media know they were only donning the suit for the fat pay cheques that came with it.
After publicly stating that he had grown bored of the character and wanted more money before the release of You Only Live Twice - which he'd been paid $750,000 for - the studio knew they'd have a hard time convincing Connery to come back without a significant pay rise.
The studio attempted to negotiate with Connery, but had already achieved a back up in George Lazanby for their upcoming On Her Majesty's Secret Service - who also became notorious for his shunning of his Bond releases before they even occurred, with co-star Diana Rigg calling his self-obsession "utterly, unbelievably ... bloody impossible".
Connery made it known that he would refuse to accept less than $1 million plus a percentage of the film's profits, which seems like chump change compared to the $50 million Craig was paid to keep him on No Time to Die after expressing that he was done with the franchise.
When it comes to Bond, money talks. But the studio just weren't willing to let it talk loud enough for Connery, and Lazanby was brought in as his replacement.
