Ross Marquand has made a name for himself replacing MCU villains.

The Walking Dead actor made his MCU debut in Avengers: Infinity War, taking on the role of Johann Schmidt, aka the Red Skull. Marquand's appearance as Red Skull shocked fans, and not just because the character seemingly died back in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. In that film, Schmidt was played by Hugo Weaving. For whatever reason, Weaving declined to reprise his role for Infinity War, so Marquand took over the role of the iconic Captain America villain. Marquand briefly reprises his role in Avengers: Endgame as well.

Additionally, James Spader did not return to his role as Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron for What If...? Instead, Marquand voiced the character in the last two episodes of the first season. This version of Ultron acts as the season's big bad, taking on the Guardians of the Multiverse, collecting six Infinity Stones, and even challenging the all powerful watcher to a fist fight.

Should Josh Brolin ever decline to reprise his role of Thanos but the writers still want to bring him back, we know Ross Marquand will once again return to the MCU.
