10 Actors Who Refused To Make Sacrifices For Movie Roles

5. 50 Shades Was One Nude Script Too Far For Emilia Clarke

In the very first episode (and plenty of times afterwards) Emilia Clarke has been seen totally starkers in HBO€™s Game Of Thrones. For the first three seasons there were sex scenes, bath scenes, and any-other-excuse-the-writers-could-think-of scenes. When Clarke was offered the lead role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Of Grey, then, it will have seemed to some like a somewhat logical fit. But she turned it down. €œI€™d done nudity before and was concerned with being labelled for doing it again,€ she told The Hollywood Reporter. This chimes with Clarke€™s post-season 3 Game Of Thrones contract stipulation that she won't appear nude in the series anymore. She clearly didn€™t want to sacrifice that very personal no-more-nudity decision that she had made. Instead she made Terminator Genisys, which didn€™t go down too well with critics (to put it lightly) but did make a fair amount of cash and significantly increased Clarke€™s cinematic star power. This is evidenced in the fact that Clarke has top billing in her next two film projects, Me Before You and Voice From The Stone. Dakota Johnson, who wound up playing Steele, isn€™t short of work either, but it€™s good to see that Clarke€™s choice to stick to her guns regarding Fifty Shades didn€™t harm her career whatsoever. More power to her, I say.
