10 Actors Who Refused To Make Sacrifices For Movie Roles

3. Denzel Washington Couldn't Trust The Director Of Michael Clayton

Nominated for seven Oscars including Best Director for Tony Gilroy, Best Script for Tony Gilroy, and Best Actor for George Clooney, Michael Clayton is one of those movies you€™d really kick yourself later if you€™d turned it down. That€™s exactly what happened to Denzel Washington. Mr Washington was offered the title role in the lawyer drama, but said no to the part because he couldn€™t sacrifice his pride enough to risk working with Gilroy, a first time director. €œIt was the best material I had read in a long time, but I was nervous about a first-time director, and I was wrong,€ he later admitted to the press. €œIt happens,€ he added, which Washington knows better than most - he also turned down a role in Seven because he thought it was too dark, before reportedly kicking himself when he saw the finished movie at the cinema. But still, Denzel Washington has had plenty of Academy Awards success himself, having bagged the Best Actor award twice, for Glory and Training Day. He recently got his first nomination in over a decade in 2012 (for Flight) and has no shortage of new projects in the works, so probably isn't losing any sleep over a couple of regrettable decisions.
