Tobin Bell has had a fascinating career, having spent years working as an off-Broadway actor and playing a stand-in in more than 30 major Hollywood movies, including Manhattan, Tootsie, and Sophie's Choice.

It wasn't until Bell was 46 years of age that he won his first major acting role in 1988's Mississippi Burning, and for most of the '90s played supporting parts in films and TV shows.

But in 2004 Bell got a rocket strapped to him when he appeared in Saw as John Kramer, the terminally ill man who is secretly also the murderous mastermind known as Jigsaw.

Bell has appeared in all eight released Saw movies to date in some capacity - despite his character being killed off in Saw III - in turn establishing himself as the most recognisable modern horror icon in a period where slasher movie franchises had become unfashionable.

Bell was the face of the franchise and, no matter the quality of the later installments, gave a deliciously menacing performance every single time.

This star power has effectively made Bell a horror mainstay ever since, his gravelly voice and piercing gaze sure to elevate just about any movie he turns up in.
