In the crazy world we live in, this article can suggest with a straight face that an actor who spent four years starring in Emmerdale would be a good fit for the role of torturer, arsonist, sadist, murderer and all-round deranged serial killer Cletus Kasady. What a time to be alive.

All jokes aside, Joe Gilgun has delivered strong work across several genres in recent years and can currently be found playing a charismatic Irish vampire in AMC's Preacher. Even watching his scene-stealing villain in the otherwise-terrible Guy Pearce vehicle Lockout demonstrates that this guy would have the chops to play Carnage.

From a physical standpoint, the 33 year-old Englishman has the lean frame and angular features that are synonymous with several comic book versions of the character and as an actor predicted for big things, starring opposite Tom Hardy in a comic book blockbuster could be an inspired move.
