10 Actors Who Sound NOTHING Like You Would Imagine
9. Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam may have been born in Newcastle and raised in Cumbria but he mastered the American lilt after spending two decades in the States. When the Geordie actor portrays Americans in projects like Sons of Anarchy, Triple Frontier, or Pacific Rim, his true cadence never slips out.
But the reason why people think Hunnam is American isn't because he's so good at the accent, it's because he's so bad at performing an English one! Early in his career, the British heartthrob played a London thug in the crime drama, Green Street. Even though Newcastle is only 250 miles from England's capital, Hunnam sounds Australian in the film, especially when he attempts Cockney slang.
After Hunnam got cast in Sons of Anarchy and became synonymous with the role of Jax Teller, fans assumed that was his real accent and wondered why the casting director of Green Street hired an "American" to portray a Cockney character in the first place.
Even though he showcased his native accent in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, no one realised that was his real voice. The reason why is simple though: nobody saw that movie.
