10 Actors Who Suffered The Most After Winning An Oscar
5. Jean DuJardin
Jean Dujardin was hardly new to acting when he was handed the lead role in Michel Hazanavicius' delightful The Artist in 2011, but he wasn't well-known outside of his native France.
His performance in that movie - whose silence made for new challenges, inevitably - is brilliant and rightly earned him the statue for Best Actor. It also removed his need to speak, which hid his thick French accent - a limiting characteristic for anything other than French roles. That's, sadly, just the way Hollywood is.
He's appeared in some American movies since, like The Monuments Men and The Wolf Of Wall Street, but he's mostly just gone back to French-speaking movies, as if his flirtation with "mainstream" importance was literally just that.
