10 Actors Who Thought They Were Playing Other Comic Book Villains

Who He Was Supposed To Play: A businessman turned into a heartless kidnapper and organ farmer, the comic book version of Cross is only obsessed with saving himself. To keep his experimental heart working, he needs to routinely replace it, a process which he fulfills by capturing homeless people and stealing theirs.

Who He Really Played: While the cinematic Darren Cross was still crazy about himself, Stoll seemed to have drawn a lot more from a more prominent Ant-Man foe, the evil scientist Egghead. Egghead sees himself as Hank Pym’s rival and seeks to prove himself to his crime lord as well as the media that he could best the Ant-Man.

He would do anything to achieve his goals, and his fierce passion to discredit Pym and prove himself worthy sounds exactly like the MCU’s Darren Cross. That arrogance and ambition which defined Stoll in the film are the same driving forces present in Egghead, but not so much in the comic book version of Cross. Egghead might have even worked better in the part, perhaps explaining why this take on Cross felt so distant from the source. And frankly, Stoll even looks more like Egghead than Cross, making the comparison even harder to dismiss.
