3. Edward Norton Didn't Want To Play Another Norton In RoboCop
You can't say they weren't being ambitious with the casting for the RoboCop remake. Though eventually producers landed with the still pretty impressive line-up of Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley and Michael K 'Omar from The Wire' Williams, the people they originally wanted made for an even more promising cast. Michael Fassbender, Matthias Schoenaerts and Russell Crowe were among those considered for the lead before Joel Kinnaman stepped in, and Gael Garcia Bernal was considered for an unspecified role, but an offer was actually made to Edward Norton to play the character of Dr. Norton, which the three-time Oscar nominee turned down. Also on the list of potential casts were Rebecca Hall and Sean Penn, both of whom turned down the roles they were offered (of Clara and Novak). Considering the film underwhelmed, none of them are likely to be losing much sleep over it.
