10 Actors Who Turned Down Star Wars

9. Benicio Del Toro - Darth Maul

Poor old Benicio, the man who foolishly turned down the role of the one cool character from The Phantom Menace. While Del Toro's decision to not play the iconic yet much under utilised Darth Maul in the first prequel was a strange one, the punishment he received for this mistake was mighty harsh- forced to act in The Last Jedi.

Del Toro had been signed up by George Lucas for the role of the super cool looking Sith apprentice Darth Maul, but eventually dropped out after Lucas handed him a redacted script. With just five minutes screen time and only several lines, Del Toro eventually decided to give up the role.

Trying to recapture his last chance at Star Wars fame, Del Toro sadly took the role of arguably the most pointless character in the franchise's history- lock picker DJ. While Del Toro did all he could with the character, DJ just had no relevance to the entire story arc and proved to be a rather forgettable presence. The fact that the character was involved in a subplot that proved pointless to the overall narrative and loathed by many also didn't help Del Toro's legacy on the Star Wars saga.
