Due to the film's already lengthy time Maggie Cheungs role was cut at the final hour. She played Madame Mimieux the original owner of the cinema that becomes the central narrative of the firm. Melanie Laurent poses as her niece before Minieux passes away from a fever leaving her name and cinema to Laurents Shoshanna. Cheung was reportedly at Cannes when she found out and said that she thought it was no big deal. The scenes never made the light of day, not even as a DVD extra.
