4. Calvin Candie - Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained)
Just because Will Smith wasn't willing to put his family- friendly reputation on the line for
Django Unchained doesn't mean that Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't; granted, this actor is far more at home in movies of the R-rated kind, but DiCaprio went against type to play his first ever fully-fledged villain. As Calvin Candie, a plantation owner in the 19th century antebellum south, DiCaprio throws himself into the role with gusto and a healthy amount of inspired scenery chewin'. He's a devil, for sure, but boy is it fun to watch DiCaprio alternating behind spoilt boy emperor and a gentleman with a fetish for France. The fact that he didn't get an Oscar nomination for this turn is a shame, though: you get the sense that he put a lot of effort in here.
