10 Actors Who Were Injured In Dumb Ways On Set

1. Hilary Swank

P.S. I Love YouFilm: P.S. I Love You (2007) The final entry on this list is the most ridiculous of these injuries, both due to the manner of the injury and the genre of the film it occurred in. If there was a film that you would feel pretty assured that you would not suffer any kind of harm, it would be the 2007 romantic drama P.S. I Love You. I'm not going to lie, I am not very familiar with this movie as it appears like the type of flick that you would agree to watch to appease your girlfriend. After reading about this incident however, it must have had more slapstick elements than I originally believed. The film stars Hilary Swank as Holly, a young widowed woman after her husband Gerry, played by Gerard Butler, dies of a sudden brain tumour. The course of the story is Holly discovering a number of messages left by Gerry prior to his death, which launch a series of flashbacks as well as helping her move on with her life following this desperately sad turn of events. So far, it would suggest that the only threat this film has to one's health is if the viewer were to drown from their own tears (or vomit depending on your own outlook on love). However, Swank would learn that when you are feeling at your most secure, that is when life is going to bite you in the backside. Or, in her own particular case, take a chunk out of her forehead. In a scene where Butler performs a strip tease for Swank, one of the straps on his suspenders stretched to the point that they snapped and sent the buckle directly into the path of Swank. The combination of the pain it would have caused and the embarrassment of the reason behind it make this one of the dumbest injuries in film history. Swank required stitches and the incident left a notable indent on her head in the shape of the buckle. I guess that along with the notes it could just be another reminder of her time with Gerry prior his death. This moment is also a vindication of why suspenders have now gone out of fashion - not only do they look ridiculous, but they're essentially an accident waiting to happen.
