10 Actors Who Were Miscast As The Villain

9. Riz Ahmed (Riot) - Venom

Fantastic Beasts
Sony

More than proving he's up to the task of delivering some of the most complex and intriguing characters thrown into theatres in recent times, fans had every reason to believe Riz Ahmed would once again knock it out of the cinematic park the second his casting as Venom's big bad was made official.

Yet, far from forging another iconic Spider-Verse villain to remember upon letting loose his version of Carlton Drake/Riot in that 2018 slice of Sony carnage, Ahmed found himself being entirely overshadowed by Tom Hardy's manic work as Eddie Brock/Venom in the picture.

Not exactly helped by the fact he was saddled with some pretty horrendous writing, Ahmed seemed to simply get lost when under such a villainous spotlight and produced arguably his most boring and unmemorable work to date amidst one of the most chaotic films in its genre. Which is some feat.

Ahmed himself has also been quick to note how he simply wasn't equipped with the "skill set" to produce "the technical thing and the emotional thing" in a film of Venom's size when shooting the symbiote flick. So, here's hoping he'll be in a better position to deliver the goods if and when he decides to return to blockbuster filmmaking.
