10 Actors Who Were REJECTED For Recent Movies (And Why)
5. Chris D'Elia - Army Of The Dead
The Role: Peters, the helicopter pilot who serves a vital role in the central Las Vegas heist, as was eventually portrayed by the great Tig Notaro.
Why He Was Rejected: In this case the original actor had actually already shot their part before being kicked to the curb.
Comedian Chris D'Elia was originally cast to play Peters, but almost a year after filming his role, numerous sexual misconduct allegations were levelled against him, prompting director Zack Snyder to make a daring effort to remove him from the film.
Given that D'Elia's role wasn't one easily removed as he spent most of his time on-screen with the large ensemble cast, Snyder decided employ a combination of reshoots and cutting-edge visual effects to replace him with comedian Notaro.
Notaro spent two weeks re-shooting the part with a skeleton crew, to the extent that the only co-star she met on set was Ana de la Reguera. This material was then edited into the main shoot using creative, complex VFX, often integrating green screen shots of Notaro into existing footage.
Though it's not quite a seamless transition, it is extremely impressive all the same, enough that casual observers with no knowledge of the reshoots probably didn't even realise.
