10 Actors Who Were Totally Miscast In Recent Movies
These casting choices just didn't hit AT ALL.
One of the most important but arguably underappreciated aspects of filmmaking is casting. It's not simply good enough to hire a good actor and be done with it - a casting director needs to ensure they're a great fit for the part too.
Even the best actors aren't cut out to play every role they're offered, and countless films have been compromised or sunk entirely by hiring the wrong actor for a major part. Whether it ruined the movie or not, it's tough to deny that the following ten actors were all absolutely miscast in these recent films.
From performers who were nothing like the source material conception of the character, to actors playing hilariously younger than their own age to a distracting degree, they all ended up bringing more of a distracting presence to each film than an entertaining one.
In some cases, the casting was egregious enough to basically derail the entire movie, while in others it was simply an unfortunate issue regardless of the film's quality otherwise. The lesson here? Casting is tough to get right, but extremely easy to screw up.
10. Kevin Hart & Cate Blanchett - Borderlands
Before even a single frame of footage had been shown off, fans were already busy screaming "miscast!" at Eli Roth's adaptation of hit video game Borderlands.
For starters, the short-statured Kevin Hart seemed like a howlingly inappropriate choice to portray the burly, serious-minded Roland Greaves, and Cate Blanchett, much as we love her, was a wholly unnatural fit for Lilith. Lilith was just 22 years of age in the first Borderlands game, yet here she's played by a mid-50s Blanchett, which naturally gives the character a totally different - and most would argue, inferior - vibe.
These casting choices made it abundantly clear that little effort was made to respect the core of the source material, because why would any filmmaker deviate so aggressively from the core physical tenets of these beloved characters?
Blanchett was clearly at least having fun with what little she was given. Hart, though, seemed totally lost throughout.
