10 Actors Who Won't Be Coming Back For Upcoming Sequels

6. Emilia Clarke - Terminator

Eyebrows were raised when Emilia Clarke was initially cast as Sarah Connor for 2015's Terminator Genisys, and to the surprise of few, she turned in a wooden, unconvincing performance that somehow made Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese seem vaguely not-terrible by comparison.

Granted, few actresses could've lived up to Linda Hamilton's unforgettable portrayal, but Clarke's cute, cherub-like appearance contradicted the hardened nature of the character, and her line readings were, well, awful. Who ever would've suspected that cynically forcing a Game of Thrones star into a movie she was ill-suited for would fail spectacularly?

Less than a year after Genisys released - to negative reviews and an OK-ish box office - Clarke admitted that she was relieved the film wasn't a stonking hit, reducing the studio's interest in a direct follow-up and allowing her to duck out. Earlier this year, she was less diplomatic and said of shooting the movie, "No one had a good time."

The Clarke-less sixth Terminator movie, imaginatively titled Terminator, started shooting recently with Deadpool's Tim Miller at the helm. It serves as a direct sequel to Terminator 2 and brings Hamilton back to play an aged, grizzled Sarah Connor.

What It Means For The Film:

It's unquestionably a good thing for everyone on the planet that Clarke is nowhere near this franchise anymore: she didn't enjoy doing it and fans weren't receptive to her portrayal. Plus, her not returning meant the entire mess that was Genisys was basically thrown out with the bath water.

While it'd be daft to have much faith in Terminator being any good, at least it'll be intriguing to see Linda Hamilton back in the iconic role that made her famous. The chance of her performance as Sarah being worse than Clarke's is basically less than zero.
