10 Actors Whose Careers Never Rebounded
7. Taylor Kitsch
Taylor Kitsch started his career with a film almost named after him, the kitschy Snakes on a Plane was his second role a film in which a character says, "Bitch, get off my dick!" to a snake who has decided to chew on his member.
You have to kind of feel sorry for Kitsch, as he has the general handsomeness of a leading man, the overall demeanor of a guy willing to be in Snakes on a Plane and a bit of charisma. Hollywood, at the time, was over their budget at the time. His best work, a supporting turn as a gay motorcycle cop in the unfairly maligned second season of True Detective, proved he could back up that charisma with a bit of subtlety.
The city that makes stars must have thought so, and they dumped a truckload of cash (namely $284.1 million) to prove it. The project was an adaptation of one of those things the kids are into these days - those comic book stories they like so much. Unfortunately, they bet on the wrong horse, as no 14-year-old was willing or interested to delve into the rich history of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter Of Mars. They had the right genre, they just picked the wrong century.
His somewhat charming turn as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine may have paid off had the actual film been worth his extended bit part, but ultimately, their investment didn't pay off.
