10 Actors Whose Voices You Want To Steal As Your Own
2. Benedict Cumberbatch
His name may suggest that he comes from a privileged, Etonian background, but Benedict Cumberbatch is still a hell of a lot cooler than any of us, and largely he has his vocal gifts to thank for that. He can flick a switch to go from warm to cold, laid back to calculated, good to evil, all in a second. 2013 was a big year for Cucumber-patch and his epic voice. First he got to make the character of Khan his own in J. J. Abrams' Star Trek: Into Darkness, in which he about managed to melt us all in our cinema seats as he told the crew of the Enterprise that he will walk over their cold corpses, and then he went onto lend his voice to another big name character in a huge blockbuster franchise - the evil dragon Smaug in Peter Jackson's second film in The Hobbit trilogy. If you're going to voice a terrifyingly dangerous dragon then you need a larger than life voice - Cumber-babe's is just that. But even when Cumberbatch isn't performing as evil doers, his voice still manages to ring interest, intellect and importance, as demonstrated at the beginning of this year during the 3rd series of the BBC's Sherlock. Often expected to deliver lines of dialogue at a lightning pace, any customer of Cumberbatch's Sherlock would be confident in the belief that this is a man who will solve any crime. Perhaps most importantly, though, is the fact that women seem to be obsessed with him. It has to be the voice, there's no other explanation.
