6. Cillian Murphy - Oppenheimer

Cillian Murphy’s presence on this list is only positive, as his already astounding career speaks for itself, and it’s about to get a whole lot better. Although a film shouldn’t be ruled out in the future, Murphy’s work in Peaky Blinders is seemingly done and dusted for now, and said chapter closing allows the Irishman more time in his schedule to continue doing what he does best: acting. His chameleonic ability to immerse himself within his roles makes him unique and grants the 46-year-old exclusive access to psychological realms many of his peers struggle to reach.

Murphy is almost definitely an underrated presence within the industry and hasn’t garnered the leading man status as much as he unequivocally deserves. It quite frankly defies belief that his work hasn't garnered personal acclaim, though his resilience has been rewarded. Cillian’s consistent and continuous collaboration with Christopher Nolan has warranted him being front and centre of the director’s next blockbuster project, Oppenheimer.

The star will portray the titular American scientist and his conception of the life-changing atomic bomb. Nolan hasn't shied away from historical landmarks in the past - with Dunkirk coming to mind - and his latest passion project is no exception. Cillian is leading a truly star-studded cast that consists of Hollywood mainstays and rising stars, and his chance to shine could and should lead to critical acclaim for a man who’s escaped its grasp for far too long.
