10 Actors You Won't Believe Almost Played Spider-Man

9. Leonardo DiCaprio

Given his status as Hollywood's biggest star - both now and at the height of his '90s Titantic fame - it's probably not all that surprising to hear that once upon a time Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to play everybody's favourite webhead. Aside from being reportedly offered roles as Robin in Batman and Robin (thank God he turned that down) and Anakin Skywalker for Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (and that one, too), DiCaprio also revealed during an interview that he was approached for the role of Peter Parker at some point in the '90s. "Er, that was another one of those situations, similar to Robin, where I didn't feel ready to put on that suit yet," said Leo. "They got in touch with me." This was back at a time when the studios were playing around with the idea of letting James Cameron, whose unproduced script for Spider-Man you can find online, play director. If you've read or even heard about Cameron's script, of course, you'll know that it's one of the most bizarre things ever written... and not in a good way. Funnily enough, Leo's best friend, Tobey Maguire, eventually got the role.
