10 Actors You Won't Believe Almost Played Spider-Man

7. Michael Cera

Hm. Despite the fact that he's obviously got the awkward nerd aspects of Peter Parker's character down to a tee (he only need be himself), this is a downright outrageous casting decision that presumably everyone on Earth is glad never came to fruition. According to various reports, though, at one point in time, Michael Cera - you know him as the "awkward teen" in every movie he's ever made - was in the running to play Spidey. Sure, he might've been a pretty good pre-Spidey Peter Parker, but could he make a genuinely convincing superhero? Uh-uh. The problem with Cera is that he's too awkward for his own good, and despite the fact that Peter Parker is a total and utter geek through and through, what with his love of science and such, we still need to be able to take the character seriously when he dons the famous costume; watching Michael Cera running through the streets of New York dressed in Spidey's garb is not something that feels cool in any way. It's unknown how far along Michael Cera got to playing Spider-Man, or if he even wanted to - let's all be thankful we dodged the bullet.
